Country Girl at Heart

I am not from a farm and I am not married to a farmer. 😈 I’m a township girl, born and raised. People, traffic, busy, and rushed. That's been my life.

Yet, I love country life.

I had no real connection to the country life.  And while I can admit that I didn’t always love all of the buzz of the township and city, I'm introvert,  I certainly adjusted to it over the years, and never expected anything different.

However, I do remember a tiny vegetable garden we tended to when I was a young girl. I loved eating the fresh tomatoes and from the garden.  I also loved the smell of the dirt when it was tilled.

One of my favourite things as a child was digging down into the deep rich  soil to find the earthworms.  Yeah I was a disgusting little thing. 😜Happy days!

My only reality of country living came mainly from what I saw in movies, read in books, or dreamt up myself.

So the first time I saw country living in real life is when I travelled to Cape Town for the first time. I was 22 years old and I have never seen anything like it.

The space, the land, the quiet…it was completely life giving to me.

I still remember the green that stretched on forever. Streets with open fields and blue skies. And more so, how chilled everyone was as they went about their business.

Just watching those people gave me a peace in my heart that I can’t explain.  Unexplainably happy.

To this day I still love the smell of the fresh tilled dirt, finding earthworms in the soil, eating fresh vegetables straight from the garden and feeling the positive energy. Nothing is better.

In many ways, creating this space for farmers is my way of transporting myself to that experience.

In the near future, I hope I can realise my dream of living in the countryside. Just thinking about it gives me so much bliss!
