About the job:
The CSIR has three Internship opportunities Nanomaterials Industrial Development Facility (NIDF) research group, within the Chemicals Cluster.
The purpose of these Internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through research and development of competitive technologies and innovative products under the guidance of researchers and engineers within cross-functional teams.
These positions are based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:
Under supervision, the Intern will be required to:
- Perform chemical and polymer processing involving manufacturing of nano structures and upscaling, and developing polymer nanocomposites for various applications,
- Conduct literature searches for research projects;
- Conduct experimental work in the laboratory for research projects;
- Assist with the operation of equipment in the chemical plant in a very safe and environmentally friendly manner (training will be provided);
- Assist with characterisation of products/materials (e.g. SEM, XRD, TGA, etc.;
- Compile reports and other project related documents;
- Assist with thorough housekeeping of labs and scaling-up plants;
- Assist with the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs);
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering;
- Research and report-writing skills;
- Computer literacy in MS Office Package;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to multi-task, and to perform consistently under pressure;
