Qualifications and experience required:

Responsibilities:

  • Will include but not be limited to, the following:
  • Link between our chicken grower farms and the abattoir.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge:

  • A Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Studies or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years in a related field with vast experience in poultry hatchery and growing operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning and organisational skills.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven problem solving and change management ability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Must possess valid Driver’s License.
  • Leadership skills and hands on style of management.

The internship is available to suitable individuals who wish to obtain practical working experience and knowledge in their respective area of study and/or field of work by performing various duties and/or responsibilities relevant to the Internship vacancy. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;

  • Gaining exposure to various functions including but not limited to file/case management, legal correspondence management, claims process, general administration, and providing feedback to clients’ legal related matters.

Contract length: 12 months

Salary: Up to R6,179.00 per month

EDUCATION: 

  • Must have completed Matric (Grade 12)/N3 or equivalent qualification and Paralegal studies (Diploma/Certificate).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous work experience is not essential.

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. 

Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Provide animal recording and improvement services to smallholder farmers,
  • Participate in the training and recruitment of farmers and teams in Kaonafatso ya Dikgomo Beef
  • Recording and Improvement Scheme,
  • Visit farmers for beef recording and improvement purposes,
  • Train new participants in different phases of beef schemes,
  • Participate in focus sessions/meetings with farmers’ teams/individuals,
  • Collecting information from all possible sources to compile a database of current herd statistics and 
  • performance of livestock owned by resourced poor farmers to derive performance indicators,
  • Participate in the provincial farmer support team to implement the project,
  • Compile monthly reports.

Requirements:

  • A National Diploma in Animal Production,

The main objective of the internship programme is to afford new graduates or young people studying towards achieving qualification an opportunity to apply their knowledge  and develop  skills needed in the market through  exposure in their relevant  fields  and under the guidance of more experienced professionals.

 Description:  Eastern Cape AISA seeks to appoint 50 (Fifty) Data Collection Fieldwork Assistants Positions 2021.

The Africa Institute of South Africa, AISA within the Human Sciences Research Council is seeking to appoint field work data collectors / interviewers for its project, ”Food Security and Nutrition Survey in South Africa”. 

The candidates will collect data for a period of 4-12 weeks in selected districts within the Eastern Cape Province.  Unemployed university and TVET college graduates from any of the districts of the Eastern Cape Province. are encouraged to apply. 

Remuneration for fieldworkers is offered in line with the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for each ordinary hour worked.

The Survey will be conducted in the following district areas Sarah Baartman - DC10, Amathole- DC12, Chris Hani - DC13, Joe Gqabi - DC14, OR Tambo - DC15, Alfred Nzo - DC44, Buffalo City - BUF, Nelson Mandela Bay - NMA. 

Fieldwork interviews / data collection will be preceded by training, which will be provided by HSRC. Successful applicants will need to ensure that they are able to avail themselves for the full duration of the project (including the training period).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training and briefing session in preparation for the fieldwork;
  • To administer approximately 170 questionnaires;
  • Screen potential participants with respect to eligibility;
  • Obtain informed consent from the study participants;
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of questionnaires on a daily.
  • Ensure the accurate digital recording of interviews;
  • Ensure the timeous submission of completed questionnaires and digital records of all data collected;
  • Submit daily registers of work done; and
  • Keep records of important observations and submit these in a word document to team leaders every Friday of a working week.

Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum completed NQF level 6 qualification from a recognized South African university or TVET College;
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative fieldwork i.e. undertakings surveys, focus group discussions and key informant interviews;
  • Experience with digital data collection methods & equipment (tablets);
  • Fluency in English and any of the local languages in the identified districts (IsiZulu and Afrikaans) is a key requirement;
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks as per requirements;
  • Must be resident in any Districts in the province as indicated above and must be able to travel to the research areas or central point of collection;
  • High personal motivation and self-management;
  • Articulate and tactful communication skills;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Prior fieldwork experience with HSRC will be an added advantage;
  • Good interpersonal, facilitation, and problem-solving skills;
  • Successful applicants will be evaluated during training and over the duration of the fieldwork and if any part of this work is not completed to the satisfactory level as required, the appointment will be terminated;
  • Availability to work from April to July 2021; and be available to work over weekends if required; and
  • South African citizens only.
